Cezar Derevlean, Technical Lead in Engineering: A Journey of Growth, Balance, and Learning

In this edition of our #EmployeeSpotlight, we sit down with Cezar Derevlean, one of AscentCore’s talented Technical Leads. We explored his journey from Senior Software Engineer to Technical Lead, diving into how he balances leadership, growth, and continuous learning. Discover how Cezar’s passion for teamwork and personal development drives success in his role.

Tell us a bit about yourself. How does Cezar usually spend his personal time?

Depending on how things align, I might meet with friends either in the city or over at a barbeque, do the yard work diligence, tinker with stuff that needs care around the house, spend time with my family, watch a movie, or play some video games.

How did you start your journey at AscentCore, and what was your initial role? How has your role evolved over the years, and what new skills or knowledge have you acquired?

I started my journey at AscentCore as a Senior Software Engineer and for a good while now I’m a Technical Lead. There have been many years, and none has gone by without learning many new things or skills. Maybe the most notable ones are expanding the knowledge towards mobile apps, developing cross-platform software, and working with teams of various sizes.

What does a typical workday look like for you nowadays?

As the morning starts I obviously, but hardly, get up (for now). Recently I’ve been more motivated by having to provide properly made coffee to my wife (and myself).

Proceed to pick up work where I left it off (after I have traveled to the office if it’s one of those days), sync with the team, and go about the workday as usual. Later I would take a bite (or plenty) and shoot myself another coffee.

Nothing special otherwise.

What have been some of the most memorable moments during your time at AscentCore?

There’s been so many that it’s hard to pick out just one.

Other than the occasional interesting work challenges, there have been many internal social activities or competitions that I’ve had fun taking part in. Team buildings and parties are always fun and memorable.

Can you share a particular project or achievement that you are most proud of?

I cannot (share). But there have been several, and doing each has been energizing, once finished, it left me feeling very good about what I’ve managed to learn or accomplish.

What is the most important lesson you’ve learned in your time here at AscentCore?

Balance. I’m still learning.

How do you see your future at AscentCore, and what are your aspirations moving forward?

Always a tough question, this one. I aspire to continue growing and learning, to improve how well I balance all things, and overall to do a better job wherever I can.

What advice would you give to new colleagues just starting their journey?

Listen well, pay attention to details, don’t take things for granted, and have patience. And do your best, when starting out is the best time to go the extra mile – not to necessarily prove something, but to learn as much as possible.
