Sebastian finds the unpredictable and dynamic nature of his work as an Engineering Manager to be both stimulating and rewarding. We sat down with him to talk about the challenges of his position, the importance of having a holistic approach in managing daily situations, and, among others, his new discovered interest for artificial intelligence.
Tell us a bit about yourself.
I spend most of my free time with my wife and our two highly energetic boys (9 and 3 years old), as well as our one-year-old Samoyed, Era, who is just as energetic as the kids.
Computers have always been a hobby of mine, really everything about them to be honest, dating back to when I first came in touch with one at the age of 11. It was a Pentium 1 with 16mb of RAM (which honestly feels like a different lifetime). It’s funny to think back to those days, when I had to reinstall Windows 95 after just a week, and then had to seek outside help to put the computer back together after it wouldn’t boot and I disassembled it without knowing where all the parts went on the motherboard. Those were for sure some very different and carefree times!
What is your favorite tech?
I don’t have a specific favorite technology, but lately I’ve developed a keen interest in exploring artificial intelligence. I’m fascinated by its potential and I’ve been making an effort to deepen my understanding of this field. Whether it’s through reading books, attending seminars, or participating in online forums, I’ve been actively seeking out information and knowledge about AI. I believe that understanding the inner workings of this technology is important, especially as it becomes more integrated into our lives and has a greater impact on society.
What is a typical workday for you?
The concept of “typical” is quite humorous to me, as I don’t have a consistent routine or set of behaviors that I engage in every day. As an Engineering Manager, each day brings new and interesting challenges, with both its upsides and downsides. The nature of my job requires me to handle a variety of situations and find solutions for each one. I’m the type of person who is always asking how I can help, perhaps even a bit too frequently. Despite the difficulties, I find the unpredictable and dynamic nature of my work to be both stimulating and rewarding.
Why did you choose to work at AscentCore?
At first, I will be honest, I didn’t have a specific reason for choosing AscentCore as my next challenge. After conducting some research and consulting with a couple of friends of mine, I really started to feel that AscentCore held the potential for an interesting and new challenge. Now, I can state with certainty that my decision has proven to be a good one, given what I’ve discovered here and the goals I hope to achieve.
What is your favorite AscentCore value and why?
Taken individually, none. All three values are equally important for a well-functioning company. Together, they are critical for a healthy and desirable company. They are a good match for me, as I see myself as an analytical person who prioritizes results achieved with integrity, values the relationships built on trust, and always adopts a win-win mentality.
What is the most important lesson you’ve learned in your role?
There is rarely just one solution to any given situation. This is particularly true in my line of work as an Engineering Manager, where I face new and unique challenges every day. In order to effectively manage these situations, it’s important to approach each one with a holistic perspective, assessing both its level of importance and urgency. By taking this approach, I’m able to learn, adapt, and respond in the most appropriate and effective way possible. I believe that this is crucial for success, as each situation requires a tailored approach in order to yield the best results.
What’s next in your career journey?
When it comes to my career journey, I don’t have a specific destination in mind. However, as someone who is constantly seeking progress and growth, and who values ongoing learning and helping others do the same, I believe that the sky is the limit when it comes to my potential for advancement. My drive and determination will continue to push me towards new challenges and opportunities for growth, both professionally and personally. I believe that this approach will help me achieve my goals and reach my full potential in my career.
