Tamas is a Senior Software Engineer with a great drive to learn new programming languages. We sat down with him virtually to find out more about his passion for coding, the lessons learned throughout his career as well as his career perspectives.
Tell us a bit about yourself: your background, personality and hobbies.
I started programming when I was in 7th grade and took part in a lot of competitions during my high-school years. I also wrote a Sokoban-like game where you play as a mummy (which I only have in memory now, since I’ve lost the code). That is what sparked my passion for programming and I’ve completed a Computer Science degree in Cluj.
I never liked the idea of not knowing, so I ended up learning frontend, backend, devops Tand a dozen programming languages throughout my career. I’ve since mostly satisfied my curiosity and toned back on the number of new languages learned per year.
In my spare time, I like to go to the gym, hang out with my friends and pick up random hobbies. I’m currently learning Spanish and how to be a DJ.
What is your favorite tech?
At the moment, it’s React without question. It’s the best thing to happen since the invention of the internet.
What is a typical workday for you?
I like to make a coffee before I even open my laptop. It is hard to work on empty fuel. After that I check my email and messages, I go into my notes and write down what I want to accomplish for the day. Then my focus for the rest of the day is getting those tasks done. I like working this way because I have personal goals to work on every day.
Why did you choose to work at AscentCore?
I chose to work at AscentCore because I clicked with the people during the interview process. Since I spend a large part of my time working, it’s important for me to spend it with people that I like.
What is your favorite AscentCore value and why?
Relationships. As I mentioned above, the most important thing for me when choosing a work place is the people that I will be working with. Being surrounded by like-minded people plays a major role in having a balanced and enjoyable environment.
What is the most important lesson you’ve learned in your role?
Multitasking doesn’t work. Always focus on one task at a time. You will get more done this way. This holds true for work as well as it does for life.
What’s next in your career journey?
In the proximate future, I would like to focus on improving my communication and leadership skills. Leading teams is something that I have always considered and it would be the next step in terms of what I want to achieve in my career. On the other hand, I want to learn AI before they become smarter than me.
