Teodor Oanca, Senior Software Engineer, on the Importance of Believing in Your Work

Teodor is a senior software engineer with a great passion for his work. He joined us after studying, working and being a teaching assistant in the Netherlands. We sat down with him virtually in order to talk about his professional journey as well as to find out his career growth perspectives.

Tell us a bit about yourself: your background, personality and hobbies.

I have been involved with programming since primary school, when I wrote my first Pascal algorithms and first (very ugly looking) websites. Later, I studied Computing Science in Groningen, Netherlands, where I have also been a teaching assistant for a while. Around my second year of university, I started my first Python position. I worked for a few companies over the years, filling duties ranging from backend, frontend to DevOps.

In my spare time, I take pleasure in learning new computing science-related things, spending a pretty big amount of time on tutorial platforms and related communities. Along with this, I also enjoy driving and reading political/psychology books. When feeling too tired to be productive, I enjoy a good tv series.

What is your favorite tech?

At the moment, it goes without saying that Python is my first nature.

What is a typical workday for you?

It is mandatory to start with a strong coffee while going over my emails and the tech newsletters to catch up with the latest things happening in the industry. Once I finish those, it is time to get into the focus time and do some actual work, between all the meetings, of course.

Why did you choose to work at AscentCore?

For me, it is relevant to believe and be satisfied with my work, considering it will fill a big part of my life. So when I was presented with the project I was possibly going to work on, understanding that I will contribute to the wellbeing of some pets, I said it is worth a try.

What is your favorite AscentCore value and why?

Relationships. I like the openness and the straightforward communication. It promotes trust and is increasing my motivation.

What is the most important lesson you’ve learned in your role?

Assiduous work beats talent.

What’s next in your career journey?

My focus for the next period is to organize a small team and start developing augmented reality applications.

Where Emotions Lie Inside a Neural Network: A CT Scan of LLM Hidden States

Large language models respond to emotionally charged inputs with contextually appropriate outputs, but the mechanism by which they represent, propagate, and modulate emotional tone through their internal layers remains poorly understood. Do emotions “live” in specific layers? Is the signal carried by the attention mechanism, the MLP, or the residual stream itself? And when a model is instructed to be a “helpful assistant,” does its internal representation remain emotionally neutral, or does it mirror the user’s emotional state?
