Andrei Tămaș, Technical Team Lead, on Building and Motivating a Successful Team

Andrei is a valuable member of the AscentCore team, with over 14 years of experience implementing applications. He discovered his passion for computers at the age of seven and knew even back then he would be turning his passion into a career. Today he is one of our Technical Team Leads, specializing in Frontend Development.

We sat down with him virtually to learn about his journey, and a few valuable insights regarding team management.

What is your favorite tech?

Javascript. No way around it: I’ve watched Javascript evolve into one of the most versatile tools in a developer’s belt, allowing us to program in every domain, be it Frontend, Backend, embedded and anything in between.

What is a typical workday for you?

I moved to Baia Mare in 2019 to be closer to family and get more help raising my kids. Since then “working from home” is the norm for me. It starts with a good cup of coffee, then going through emails to figure out what my focus should be for the day, and a few meetings to help out any team members that might be stuck with some task. Around noon, I manage to do some of my own work, and in the evenings I usually have sync meetings with our clients, where we discuss progress, plans for the future and various aspects that need clarifications.

Why did you choose to work at AscentCore?

I’ve known and worked with much of the management team and many AscentCore colleagues before. I knew them to be great colleagues to have, so when I was invited to look at a project with great new technologies, the choice was easy.

What is your favorite AscentCore value and why?

My favorite value of AscentCore is ‘Relationships’. Having good relationships is the main reason why I took a job here, and I strongly believe that developing and having good relationships is the most important thing in “making the world spin round and round”.

What is the most important lesson you’ve learned in your role?

Behind every project, every product, every line of code there are people. Understanding that, and thinking about people’s needs, constraints, motivations or passions is very important in building an efficient and productive team, ready to deliver the most amazing features with even the most difficult constraints or deadlines.

Where Emotions Lie Inside a Neural Network: A CT Scan of LLM Hidden States

Large language models respond to emotionally charged inputs with contextually appropriate outputs, but the mechanism by which they represent, propagate, and modulate emotional tone through their internal layers remains poorly understood. Do emotions “live” in specific layers? Is the signal carried by the attention mechanism, the MLP, or the residual stream itself? And when a model is instructed to be a “helpful assistant,” does its internal representation remain emotionally neutral, or does it mirror the user’s emotional state?
